Adapting Innovative Technology to Education

Spring Semester 2011

Instructors: Tamara Maginity and Jodi Spicer

An introductory course to the different types of technology available to be used in a classroom setting. Focusing on creating a personal learning network to help support my technology goals for the future. Working with group members, I researched specifically how Google Earth could be ehance student learning.

This course introduced me to TPACK. This is how technology, pedagogy, content and knowledge interconnect. I also was introduced to UDL, or the universal design for learning. During this course, I took an in depth look at how creating lessons that are designed for all students by being flexible to meet individual student needs. I also created a stand alone instructional resource or StAIR which you can view below.

Learning Technology Through Design

Spring Semester 2013

Instructors: Punya Mishra

This course focused around the Wicked Problem Project. For the Wicked project, I had to identify a problem in my classroom, and find and test a technology that could be possibly used to solve this problem. I also created my first blog in this course, which I used to document my progress throught the Wicked project. Check out my blog below.

The main focus of this course was to take a closer look at educational research, and how to evaulate and anlayze published studies. For this course, I created a research design plan that would dictate how to gather and intrepret research on graduation rates of schools that offer online credit recovery courses for students compared to schools who do not.

During this course I evaluated the many facets of leadership. Focusing on what it means to be a leader, I learned many of the responsiblites and skills that are needed in order to be an effective leader. I also evaluated how being a leader of technology in the educational realm has many social and moral implications as well.

This course took and in depth look at how learning takes place in different settings. Throughout this course I analyzed how learning takes place, and how students prior knowledge influences their learning. I also learned how to use audio software and video producing software in order to tell a story digitally. Check out my digital story below.

Capstone Educational Technology

Summer Semester 2013

Instructor: Matthew Koehler

This course allowed me to put my knowledge and skills to the test by creating an online course for my high school sociology students. Using Haiku as a web publishing platform, I discovered and created an entire unit of teaching compleley online. During the experience, I kept an on going journal of my progress using Google Docs.

A reading course required by state law in order to familarize myself with accomodating different reading levels in my classroom. Throughout this course I worked with an elementary student and tracked her literacy progress. By planning and using intervention strategies, I was able to see what impacts students literacy.

Focusing on how design is such an important aspect when creating websites. This course not only taught me how to create a website, that is well designed. It also allowed me to create a full lesson that I can use in my World History class on one website.

My final course in the Master's in Educational Technology program. This course is designed around creating an online portfoilo that I can use in my professional and personal life. It is a complelation of all of the hard work I have done during the MAET program in one nice organized place.
